In order to enhance urban development and promote community integration, thus, to enrich and strengthen Macao's existing public transportation network, the LRT East Line is planned to directly connect Macao Peninsula and Taipa.
East Line runs from Portas do Cerco (Border Gate) to Taipa with an approximate length of 7.65km. In the current design, East Line consists of 6 stations (ES1 to ES6). The Line starts from the northern tip of Macao Peninsula, runs underneath the seabed outside Av. Norte do Hipódromo and Av. da Ponte da Amizade, reaching the northern side of Zone A. The alignment continues below the central green corridor in Zone A, then to the cross harbour section to Zone E within the Taipa area. After leaving Station ES6 in Zone E the line will be directly connected to the existing Taipa Ferry Terminal Station of Taipa Line. East Line mainly runs at underground hence can provide transportation service in all weather conditions.
Entrances of East Line are located in residential area and Border Gate area, provide convenience access to citizens. East Line will provide a fast and comfortable transportation to residents in northern Macao Peninsula, Zone A, Zone E and Taipa.
East Line will be the first underground Light Rail Transport that connects Macao Peninsula and Taipa. Apart from alleviating part of the cross harbour traffic, it also provides service during extreme weather with underground service.
